Details
Ge Kiln was one of the five famous kilns in the Song Dynasty and played a decisive role in the history of ceramics. Most of the classic Ge Kiln utensils that have been handed down to the world come from the old collection of the Qing Dynasty. Because these artifacts do not match the characteristics of Ge Kiln recorded in ancient documents, and there is no archaeological data to support them, it has caused the biggest mystery in the history of Chinese ceramics. Because of its mystery, people's interest in collecting it has greatly increased. Today, the editor will introduce you to the identification method of Ge Kiln porcelain. The identification methods of Ge Kiln porcelain can mainly be based on the following aspects
Cracks
Ge Kiln porcelain must have the well-known gold wire and purple iron feet. The former is the unique crack of Ge kiln. The large lines are iron wires, some are blue, and the small lines inside the large lines are gold wires. Some are not necessarily golden. The large lines and small lines are collectively called surface cracks. , it should be dense but not sparse, curved but not straight. The latter is the more special color of Ge Kiln, but the two are often like fish and bear's paw, and they cannot have both. The porcelain body with full glaze has purple color but no iron content. The iron foot should be the unglazed color of the fetus itself. The iron feet are a kind of artificially applied black glaze, and their authenticity is questionable. It is contrary to the iron color recorded in the "Sequel to the Seven Revised Class Drafts".
Glaze Color
Ge kiln belongs to the celadon series. The glaze color is celadon, with different shades, including pink blue, moon white, putty, green and yellow, etc. Due to the effect of kiln change, the glaze color usually appears in two or two colors. The above colors are not caused by human subjective will. There are two kinds of tire quality: porcelain tire and sand tire, with few patterns and no year mark. Fetal colors include black gray, dark gray, apricot yellow, light gray, etc. The glaze surface is not smooth, but there is a layer of light like butter. The glaze is darker and turbid, and the thickness of the glaze layer is uneven. For vessels dipped in glaze and fired vertically, the glaze on the bottom foot is the thickest, and some can reach millimeters. The firing method is to bake with foot-wrapped pins or with round feet and padded cakes. In the latter case, the traces of firing of the round cakes can be clearly seen.
Bottom foot
The bottom foot of Ge Kiln is also quite special. The bottom edge of the foot is narrow and flat, not wide and concave. The inner wall of the foot is deep and long, and the outer wall of the foot is shallow and short, making it difficult to lift with fingers. stand up.
Accumulating beads and gathering balls
This is the most important, most wonderful, most commendable, and most overlooked feature of Ge Kiln, which is the so-called accumulating beads and gathering balls. Sun Yingzhou, an ancestor in the ceramics industry, has already said in his article "Identification of Yuan, Ming and Qing Porcelain" that the glaze bubbles of Guan and Ge are as dense as beads. These are features that are difficult to imitate and can be used as a clue to distinguish the era. Obviously, "Zanzhu" refers to the fine bubbles in the glaze of Ge kiln wares, which are like small water droplets, covering the inner and outer walls or the inner and outer bodies of the wares. But Sun Lao said it more generally. In fact, the bubbles in the glaze of the real Ge kiln are not just pearls, but also appear to be a kind of agglomeration slightly larger than pearls.
The ball is larger than the bead, which means that there are two kinds of bubbles of different sizes in Ge Kiln. Their arrangement is not scattered at random, but rather neatly arranged together. The number of bubbles in the ball type is much smaller than that in the bead type. They are generally arranged in a circle on the inner wall of the utensil, like a very thick ring. This is an indispensable and important basis for distinguishing true and false Ge kilns.
The above is the relevant introduction about the identification of Ge Kiln porcelain. If you want to know more knowledge, please pay attention to Zhangyan Collection.
